Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 120 days beyond the intended stay
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Completed arrival or customs declaration card, issued on the flight or at the airport
  • No visa, biometrics, or photo required for the visa-free entry

Visa types

  • No visa category applies for the 30-day visa-free tourist/business entry. Travellers needing to stay longer, or planning employment or investment activity, must apply for an extension or a resident/work permit through the FSM Department of Justice or the relevant state government - Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, or Kosrae each administer some processes separately - before the initial 30 days expire.

Entry conditions

  • Hong Kong SAR passport holders may enter and remain in the Federated States of Micronesia visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism or business, with no work permitted on this basis. On arrival at one of the FSM's international airports (Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, or Kosrae), present your passport, return ticket, and completed arrival card. Extensions beyond 30 days must be requested at the relevant state Immigration Office before the initial period lapses, and approval is discretionary.

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee applies for the visa-free 30-day entry. Extensions, where granted, typically involve a modest administrative fee (around USD 20-50 depending on the state) and are processed within a few working days at the local immigration office.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Confirm your inter-island flight plans in advance - FSM's four states are only connected by limited weekly United Airlines flights, so onward travel within the country needs careful scheduling
  • Carry proof of accommodation and return travel even though no visa is required, as airline check-in staff abroad sometimes request it before boarding
  • There is no FSM consulate in Hong Kong, so arrange any extension or longer-stay paperwork directly with the relevant state government once in the FSM
  • Budget extra time and cash for inter-island travel, as credit card acceptance is limited outside the main town centres
  • Check current customs rules on bringing food or plant material, as FSM enforces strict biosecurity controls given its isolated island ecosystems
