Kenya Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • A digital passport-style photo uploaded during the application
  • Scanned copy of the passport bio-data page
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation in Kenya
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from or transiting a country with risk of yellow fever transmission
  • No biometrics collected online; a photo may be taken on arrival

Visa types

  • eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) - replaces the former eVisa, required for all foreign nationals except East African Community citizens, single entry, fee about USD 34, valid for a stay of up to 90 days
  • East Africa Tourist Visa - a joint visa covering Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, multiple entry within the three countries, fee about USD 100, valid 90 days
  • Transit eTA - for layovers, lower fee and shorter validity

How to apply online

  • Go to the eCitizen portal (ecitizen.go.ke) and create an account
  • Complete the eTA application with passport, travel, and accommodation details
  • Upload your photo and passport scan
  • Pay the fee online by credit/debit card (about USD 34)
  • Receive approval by email, typically within 3 business days (often faster); print or save it to present with your passport on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • eTA fee: approximately USD 34, paid online by card
  • Standard processing: up to 3 business days, though many applications are approved within 24 hours
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: approximately USD 100, similar processing time
  • No official expedited paid option; apply at least a week before travel to allow margin for delays

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply for the eTA at least several days before departure, even though approval is often fast, to avoid last-minute issues
  • If you plan to also visit Uganda or Rwanda on the same trip, consider the East Africa Tourist Visa instead of separate single-country visas
  • Carry your yellow fever certificate if your itinerary includes any at-risk transit countries, as it is checked at Kenyan airports
  • Keep a printed and digital copy of your eTA approval, since airlines may request it before boarding
  • Confirm hotel and itinerary details match your eTA application to avoid questions at immigration
