Iraq Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • A digital passport-style photo (white background, no glasses) uploaded during the application
  • Scanned copy of the passport bio-data page
  • Confirmed hotel booking or address of the host in Iraq
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • No biometrics collected for the eVisa itself; fingerprints/photo are taken on arrival at the airport
  • Travel health insurance is recommended though not mandatory for the tourist eVisa

Visa types

  • Tourist eVisa - single entry, valid for entry within 60 days of issue, permits a stay of up to 30 days, fee about USD 77
  • Business eVisa - single entry, similar validity, requires an invitation/support letter from an Iraqi company, fee about USD 77-100
  • Visa on arrival at Kurdistan Region airports (Erbil/Sulaymaniyah) only - free for most nationalities for a 30-day stay, separate from the federal eVisa and only valid for the Kurdistan Region

How to apply online

  • Go to evisa.gov.iq and create an account
  • Complete the application form with passport and trip details, and upload your photo and passport scan
  • Pay the visa fee online by credit/debit card (approximately USD 77)
  • Wait for email approval, typically within 3-5 business days (occasionally up to 10 days during busy periods)
  • Print the approval letter/eVisa PDF and present it with your passport on arrival in Baghdad, Basra, Najaf, or other federal entry points

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist/business eVisa fee: approximately USD 77, paid online by card
  • Standard processing: 3-5 business days; allow up to 10 days in peak periods
  • No official expedited service is published; apply at least 2 weeks before travel to be safe
  • Visa on arrival in the Kurdistan Region (separate from the federal eVisa) is free for most nationalities including Hong Kong

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply well ahead of your trip since processing can occasionally run past the stated 3-5 days
  • If your trip is only to the Kurdistan Region (Erbil/Duhok/Sulaymaniyah), you likely do not need the federal eVisa - a free visa on arrival is issued at Kurdistan airports instead
  • Keep both digital and printed copies of your eVisa approval, as it is checked at the airport before boarding and again on arrival
  • Register your trip with Hong Kong's Immigration Department travel advisory service given the security situation in parts of Iraq
  • Double check your hotel booking matches the address entered on the eVisa form, as mismatches can cause delays at immigration
