Greece Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Hong Kong SAR passport holders can enter Greece visa-free for tourism or business for up to 90 days in any 180-day period under the EU Schengen visa-exemption arrangement.

Guide last updated September 20, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years
  • No visa or entry form required for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of sufficient funds may be requested at the border, roughly EUR 50 per day of stay
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation such as a hotel booking or invitation letter
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 is strongly recommended, even though not mandatory for visa-exempt entry
  • No biometrics collected on entry today, though the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) will begin capturing fingerprints and a facial photo at the border once rolled out

Visa types

  • Short-stay visa-exempt entry (up to 90 days): no application needed, covers tourism, business meetings, and family visits
  • National visa (Type D) for study, work, or stays over 90 days: apply through the Greek Embassy or Consulate serving Hong Kong, fee around EUR 90, processing 15 to 30 working days

Entry conditions

  • Hong Kong SAR passport holders are exempt from short-stay visas for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area, not just Greece
  • Employment is not permitted while on visa-free entry
  • Be ready to show your return ticket, accommodation proof, and sufficient funds at immigration if asked
  • Once ETIAS launches for Schengen entry, visa-exempt travelers will need a pre-travel authorization costing EUR 7 (free under 18 and over 70), valid for 3 years
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are not normally granted from inside Greece except for documented emergencies through the Aliens and Immigration Directorate

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for visa-exempt short-stay entry itself
  • ETIAS authorization once required: EUR 7, usually approved within minutes but up to 4 days if manual review is triggered
  • National Type D visa: approximately EUR 90 fee, 15 to 30 working days processing at the Greek Embassy

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply for ETIAS as soon as it becomes mandatory, ideally at least 4 days before departure in case of manual review
  • Track your Schengen days carefully if visiting several Schengen countries on one trip, the 90/180 day limit is shared across all of them
  • Carry printed proof of onward travel and accommodation, Greek border officers check these more often than some other Schengen entry points
  • For study, work, or family reunification, start your Type D visa application with the Greek Embassy at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead, processing can run long in peak season
  • Keep your travel insurance documents handy even though not mandatory, it speeds up any border questions
