  • Proof of sufficient funds, generally around EUR 50-100 per day of stay as a guideline
  • Travel health/medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, recommended
  • No application form required in advance; ETIAS pre-travel authorization will eventually apply once fully implemented across the Schengen Area

Visa types

  • No visa required for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen Area
  • Longer stays, study, or work require a national visa or residence permit applied for through the Finnish Immigration Service (migri.fi) or a Finnish embassy before travel

Entry conditions

  • Present passport at the border for an entry stamp; days are tracked against the 90/180 rule
  • Paid employment is not permitted under the visa-free allowance
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are only granted in exceptional circumstances through migri.fi

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the 90-day visa-free entry
  • No processing time required for entry
  • Once ETIAS becomes mandatory, the authorization fee is expected to be EUR 7, with near-instant to 96-hour processing

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Track cumulative Schengen days across all Schengen countries visited on the same trip, not just Finland
  • Carry proof of accommodation and return tickets for possible airline or border checks
  • Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs (um.fi) publishes current entry requirement updates; check before departure
  • Winter travel (November-March) may warrant insurance covering medical evacuation given remote regions like Lapland
  • Keep digital and printed copies of hotel bookings for border control
