Ecuador Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Hong Kong SAR passport holders can enter Ecuador visa-free for tourism or business for up to 90 days within a 12-month period.

Guide last updated September 20, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the full length of stay (Ecuador does not require 6-month validity, but airlines often ask for it)
  • No visa or entry permit needed for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of onward or return travel, especially if asked by the airline at check-in
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the trip (bank statement or cash, not always checked but can be requested)
  • Hotel booking or address of stay in Ecuador
  • No mandatory photo requirement for entry since no visa application is filed
  • No biometrics collected on arrival for visa-free entry
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended given limited public healthcare access outside major cities

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry (T-3 stamp): covers tourism, short business meetings and family visits, up to 90 days per 12-month period, single or multiple entries within that limit
  • Study or paid work is not covered by visa-free entry and requires a separate visa (e.g. Temporary Resident Visa 12-VI for students, 9-IX for work) applied for in advance through Ecuador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Transit passengers not leaving the airport do not need any visa

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 cumulative days allowed within any 12-month period; overstaying results in fines calculated per day and possible entry bans on future visits
  • No work of any kind is permitted under the visa-free stamp, including remote work for a non-Ecuadorian employer in a business capacity beyond meetings
  • On arrival, immigration stamps the passport with the entry date; keep the stamp/entry record as proof of legal stay
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are not available under this category; travelers who need longer stays must apply for a visa before the 90 days expire
  • Onward travel or a return ticket may be requested by airline staff before boarding, even though Ecuadorian immigration itself rarely checks it

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee, since no visa is required for stays up to 90 days
  • No processing time, entry is granted on arrival after passport control
  • Overstay fines are assessed at the airport on departure, roughly USD 200-300 depending on how long the overstay is, payable in cash or by card
  • Travelers needing a longer-stay visa should budget USD 50-400 depending on visa category, plus several weeks of processing time at the consulate

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Book flights and accommodation before departure since immigration and airlines may ask for proof of onward travel
  • Carry a printed or digital copy of your itinerary and hotel booking to speed up questions at passport control
  • Track your cumulative days in Ecuador carefully if you plan multiple visits within the same 12-month period, since the 90-day cap is cumulative, not per trip
  • Purchase travel health insurance before departure, particularly for trips to the Galapagos Islands or remote Amazon regions where medical evacuation can be costly
  • If you plan to stay longer or work, start the visa application at the Ecuadorian consulate well before your visa-free entry, since converting status from inside Ecuador is limited
