Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
  • Scanned passport bio-data page and a recent passport-style photo (white background, 2x2 inches)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter from a DRC host)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory for entry)
  • Travel health insurance: strongly recommended, sometimes requested at the border
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured on arrival at the port of entry

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, valid 90 days from issue, max stay 30 days, approximately USD 100-130
  • Business e-Visa: single or multiple entry, requires an invitation letter from a DRC host company, approximately USD 150-200
  • Transit e-Visa: shorter validity for onward travel, approximately USD 50-60

How to apply online

  • Apply through the official e-visa portal linked from the DRC Embassy website or the DGM (Direction Générale de Migration) e-visa system
  • Create an account, enter personal and travel details, and upload the passport scan and photo
  • Pay the fee online by credit card
  • Approval is emailed as a PDF, typically within 3-5 business days; print it to present at the port of entry
  • On arrival, immigration verifies the e-Visa and yellow fever certificate before stamping entry

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist e-Visa fee: approximately USD 100-130, including the online processing surcharge
  • Business e-Visa fee: approximately USD 150-200
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee, since applications go directly through the government e-visa portal
  • Standard processing time: 3-5 business days
  • Expedited processing (24-48 hours) sometimes available for an extra fee of around USD 30-50

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply at least 2 weeks before departure in case additional documents are requested
  • Common rejection reasons: blurry passport scan, missing accommodation proof, or no yellow fever certificate uploaded
  • There is no DRC embassy in Hong Kong; applications are handled entirely online, so keep digital and printed copies of the approval
  • Confirm the e-visa portal is the official government site before entering payment details, as scam sites exist
  • Extensions inside DRC are handled by the DGM office in Kinshasa and should be requested well before the e-Visa's stay period ends
