What you need

  • Proof of sufficient funds (recommended EUR 50-100/day or bank statement)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 recommended
  • An ETIAS travel authorization is expected to become required before travel - check current status before departure

Visa types

  • Not applicable for stays under 90 days - entry is visa-free for tourism, business visits and short family visits
  • Longer stays, work or study require a national long-stay visa or residence permit through the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs' consular section or Ministry of Interior

Entry conditions

  • Maximum stay: 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, counted across the entire Schengen area
  • No work permitted on visa-free entry
  • Passport stamped at Schengen external borders such as Prague Vaclav Havel Airport
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are only possible for exceptional reasons, handled by the Czech Ministry of Interior (OAMP)

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee since entry is visa-free
  • ETIAS, when implemented, will carry a small fee (expected around EUR 7) with near-instant online approval
  • No other charges for a standard tourist entry
  • National long-stay visas or residence permits for stays beyond 90 days carry separate fees and processing times

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Track your cumulative Schengen days across all Schengen countries visited, not just the Czech Republic
  • Carry proof of funds and accommodation for border checks
  • Monitor the ETIAS rollout timeline and apply online in advance once required
  • Keep travel insurance documentation on hand
  • Questions about longer stays or business activity are best directed to the Czech Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its regional consulate
