Cuba Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Hong Kong passport holders need a Cuban Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turista), which can be purchased and processed online as an e-visa before travel.

Guide last updated September 20, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Completed online Tourist Card application with personal and travel details
  • Proof of travel health insurance valid in Cuba - mandatory and checked on arrival
  • Confirmed accommodation booking (hotel, casa particular, or invitation)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • No physical photo required for the e-Tourist Card application itself
  • No biometrics collected for the tourist card; only a photo may be taken on arrival
  • Proof of sufficient funds is not usually required but recommended as backup evidence

Visa types

  • Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turista) - single entry, valid for a 30-day stay, extendable once for another 30 days inside Cuba, fee around USD 20-85 depending on the issuing channel
  • Business visa - separate application through a Cuban consulate, requiring an invitation letter
  • Journalist and official visas - handled through diplomatic channels, not applicable to typical tourists

How to apply online

  • Apply through an authorized online Tourist Card portal or via the airline operating the connecting route, since Hong Kong-Cuba itineraries usually transit through Europe, Canada, or Mexico
  • Steps: complete the online form with passport and travel details, pay the fee by card, receive the e-Tourist Card as a PDF/QR code to print or show at check-in
  • Fee: approximately USD 20-30 through official government channels, or up to USD 85 through some third-party or airline resellers
  • Processing time: typically 3-5 working days for standard online processing; some portals offer next-day service for an extra fee
  • Present the printed or digital Tourist Card together with your passport at check-in and on arrival in Cuba

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist Card fee: USD 20-30 via official or consular channels, up to USD 85 via commercial resellers or airline add-ons
  • Mandatory travel insurance, if not already held, can be purchased on arrival for a nominal daily fee (roughly USD 3-4 per day)
  • Standard online processing: 3-5 working days
  • Faster processing (24-48 hours) available from some providers for an additional fee
  • Total estimated cost: USD 25-90 depending on the provider chosen

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Book your Tourist Card well before departure, as the connecting carrier's rules on tourist cards vary by routing
  • Keep both a digital and a printed copy of the Tourist Card, since not all check-in counters accept a phone screen
  • Confirm your travel insurance policy explicitly states Cuba coverage, as generic policies are sometimes rejected on arrival
  • Carry sufficient cash (USD or EUR), as many international cards do not work in Cuba
  • Double-check the tourist card's 30-day validity against your full itinerary if transiting through Cuba on a longer regional trip
