Hong Kong SAR passport holders need a visa for the Central African Republic, applied for through the nearest CAR embassy (commonly in Beijing) or an authorized visa agent, as CAR has no mission in Hong Kong.

  • HKSAR passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Completed visa application form
  • 2 recent passport photos (white background, 35x45mm)
  • Invitation letter or confirmed accommodation in Bangui
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Mandatory yellow fever vaccination certificate
  • Travel health insurance recommended
  • Biometrics may be captured in person at the issuing embassy

Visa types

  • Tourist visa - single entry, validity around 1-3 months, fee approximately USD 100-150
  • Business visa - similar validity, requires an invitation letter from a CAR company or organization, fee approximately USD 150-200
  • Transit visa - 72-hour validity for travelers passing through Bangui, fee approximately USD 50

How to apply

  • Apply through the CAR embassy in Beijing or another accredited mission, or through a visa facilitation agency, since there is no CAR mission in Hong Kong
  • Submit passport, photos, application form, invitation letter and yellow fever certificate in person or by courier
  • Standard processing: 5-10 working days in person; mail-in applications from Hong Kong can take 2-4 weeks
  • Some travelers arrange visa-on-arrival at Bangui M'Poko Airport with prior ministry authorization - confirm this in advance
