Hong Kong SAR passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to Canada - apply online at canada.ca; fee CAD 7, approval usually within minutes to 72 hours.

What you need

  • HKSAR passport valid for the duration of your stay
  • A valid email address to receive the eTA approval
  • A credit/debit card or PayPal account to pay the CAD 7 fee
  • Proof of onward/return travel (may be checked by the airline)
  • Accommodation details recommended, not submitted with the application
  • No biometrics required for eTA holders
  • Travel health insurance recommended but not mandatory

Visa types

  • eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) - for air travel only, multiple entry, valid up to 5 years or until passport expiry, stays up to 6 months per visit, fee CAD 7
  • Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) - only needed if you are not eTA-eligible; same process covers business visitors
  • Study/Work permits - separate applications required, not covered by eTA

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • eTA is only required for arrivals by air; land/sea entry via the US does not require it
