Hong Kong SAR passport holders can enter Benin visa-free for up to 14 days when arriving by air at Cadjehoun Airport in Cotonou; longer stays or other entry points require an e-Visa obtained in advance via evisa.gouv.bj.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival
  • No application form for the 14-day visa-free air entry; an e-Visa application (with scanned passport bio page and digital photo) if you need a longer stay or are entering by land
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Proof of sufficient funds, may be requested on arrival
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into Benin
  • No biometrics required for the visa-free 14-day entry; fingerprints may be captured for e-Visa holders on arrival

Visa types

  • Visa-free short stay - up to 14 days, air arrivals at Cotonou only, no application
  • e-Visa (single entry) - for stays up to 30 or 90 days, or for land border entry, applied for online in advance
  • Business/multiple-entry e-Visa - available for frequent business travellers through the same online portal

Entry conditions

  • Cannot be extended or converted into a longer stay from within Benin - you must obtain an e-Visa before travelling if you need more time
