Guide last updated September 19, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen Area
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay in Belgium/Schengen
  • Proof of sufficient funds (commonly referenced guideline of around EUR 45-95 per day depending on accommodation type)
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, recommended and may be requested at the border
  • No visa or biometrics required within the 90-day visa-free allowance
  • ETIAS pre-travel authorisation will additionally be required once introduced for the Schengen Area

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourism or business visits of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen Area
  • Longer stays, work, or study require a national (type D) visa applied for through the Belgian Embassy or Consulate before travel

Entry conditions

  • Maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period, calculated across all Schengen countries combined
  • Employment is not permitted on visa-free entry; business visits are limited to meetings and negotiations
  • Border officers may request proof of funds, accommodation, and onward travel
  • Overstaying can result in fines and a Schengen-wide entry ban

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-free entry
  • ETIAS fee, once introduced, is expected to be EUR 7 per authorisation, valid for 3 years or until passport expiry
  • No VFS/BLS service required for the current visa-free route
  • Entry processing at the border is typically a few minutes with standard passport checks

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Track the 90/180-day Schengen limit carefully across all Schengen countries visited, not just Belgium
  • Carry proof of travel health insurance and accommodation, commonly requested at Belgian border checks
  • Register for ETIAS online once it becomes mandatory - it is a lightweight screening, not a visa
  • Only longer stays require contacting the Belgian Consulate General in Hong Kong; short tourist or business trips need no advance application
  • Keep boarding passes and hotel confirmations until departure from the Schengen Area
