What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area

  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds (approx. EUR 100/day benchmark sometimes cited, though not strictly enforced for most travelers)

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourism/business visits up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area
  • Schengen national visa (type D): needed only for stays beyond 90 days, study or work, applied for via the Austrian consulate before travel
  • ETIAS: from its eventual go-live, HKSAR passport holders will need to register online before travel (free registration period, then a small fee), supplementing rather than replacing visa-free status
