What you need

  • Passport valid for the full duration of stay (6 months remaining recommended)
  • No visa or e-visa application form required for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address of stay)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the trip (not always checked but can be requested)
  • No biometrics required for visa-free entry
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourism/business stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Long-stay residence permit: required for stays beyond 90 days or for work/study, applied for at a police directorate inside Albania or an Albanian embassy abroad, fee varies by permit type (approx. EUR 30-100)

  • No work permitted under visa-free entry
  • On arrival, show passport, show return ticket and accommodation proof if asked by border officer

  • If a residence permit is later needed, permit fees run approx. EUR 30-100 depending on type, processed in 2-4 weeks

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Carry a printed hotel booking and return ticket in case of border questioning
  • Albania is not a Schengen member, so this 90/180 allowance is separate from any Schengen days used on the same trip
  • Common entry refusal reasons: no onward ticket, inability to show funds, or signs of intent to work
  • If you plan to continue into Schengen countries afterward, track your Schengen 90/180 day count separately
  • No in-country extension for tourists; plan your full itinerary within the 90-day window
