Uganda Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

German citizens must obtain an e-Visa online before traveling to Uganda, via the official Uganda immigration portal, typically approved within a few business days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • A completed online e-Visa application at visas.immigration.go.ug
  • A passport-style digital photo uploaded during the application, meeting standard e-visa photo specifications (plain background, full face visible)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate, mandatory for entry into Uganda and checked on arrival
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) or an invitation letter if visiting a host
  • No biometrics are collected online; fingerprints may be taken on arrival at Entebbe International Airport
  • Travel health insurance is not legally mandatory but strongly recommended given limited reciprocal coverage for German travelers

Visa types

  • Single-entry tourist e-Visa: valid for up to 90 days, intended for tourism, approximate fee USD 50
  • Single-entry business e-Visa: valid for up to 90 days, for business meetings and short assignments, approximate fee USD 50
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: a multiple-entry option covering Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda, valid 90 days, approximate fee USD 100, applied for through the same or partner portals
  • Multiple-entry visa: available for frequent travelers, longer validity (6–12 months), higher fee, approved on a case-by-case basis

How to apply online

  • Step 1: Visit the official portal, visas.immigration.go.ug, and create an account
  • Step 2: Fill in personal, passport, and travel details, and upload your digital photo, passport bio page scan, yellow fever certificate, and (if applicable) invitation letter or hotel booking
  • Step 3: Pay the visa fee online by credit/debit card; fees are quoted in USD
  • Step 4: Standard processing takes 2–5 working days, though it can occasionally take longer during peak season; apply at least 2 weeks before travel to allow buffer time
  • Step 5: Approval arrives by email as a PDF e-Visa, which must be printed and presented alongside your passport on arrival at Entebbe or another authorized port of entry

Fees & processing time

  • Single-entry tourist/business e-Visa: approximately USD 50
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: approximately USD 100
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee, since the e-Visa system is run directly by Uganda's immigration authority
  • Total cost estimate: USD 50–100 depending on visa type, plus the yellow fever vaccination cost if not already held
  • Standard processing: 2–5 working days; no official express service is advertised, so early application is the best way to avoid delays

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply at least 2–3 weeks before departure, since processing times can occasionally extend beyond the standard window during high season (June–September, December–February)
  • Common rejection reasons include a missing or expired yellow fever certificate, a photo that does not meet specifications, and mismatched passport details
  • Double-check the East Africa Tourist Visa option if also visiting Kenya or Rwanda on the same trip, as it is more cost-effective than three separate visas
  • Extensions inside Uganda are possible through the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control in Kampala, generally for an extra fee and valid reason
  • There is no VFS or embassy walk-in alternative for Germans — the e-Visa portal is the only route, so ensure your email and payment details are correct before submitting
