Visa Free

German citizens do not need a visa for the Solomon Islands - a free Visitor Permit is stamped on arrival, valid for up to 90 days.

Guide last updated September 10, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No visa application or form beyond the standard arrival/health declaration card
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay (may be requested)
  • No photo or biometrics required for entry
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visitor Permit: the only entry category for tourism, issued free on arrival for up to 90 days
  • Business visits of similar length fall under the same free Visitor Permit if no local employment is involved
  • Work or long-term stays require a separate work permit sponsored by a local employer, arranged in advance

Entry conditions

  • German citizens are granted up to 90 days on arrival at Honiara International Airport
  • The permit is stamped into the passport free of charge after a brief immigration check
  • No paid employment is allowed under the Visitor Permit
  • Extensions can be requested at the Immigration Division in Honiara before the permit expires

Fees & processing time

  • Visitor Permit on arrival: free of charge
  • No processing time - granted immediately at the airport immigration desk
  • Extensions in-country: a modest fee applies (typically under USD 50), payable at the Immigration Division

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Book accommodation before arrival, since informal or unregistered stays can raise questions at immigration
  • Domestic inter-island transport can be limited, so confirm onward flights within the Solomons in advance
  • Carry a printed or digital copy of your return ticket to show at check-in and on arrival
  • If planning to stay past 90 days, start the extension request at the Honiara Immigration Division well before expiry
  • Cash (Solomon Islands dollars) is preferred outside Honiara; ATMs are limited on outer islands
