Visa types

  • Business visa: required for longer commercial engagements or employment-related visits; arranged in advance through the Solomon Islands Immigration Division
  • Extension of visitor permit: available locally through the Immigration Division in Honiara, for additional periods up to a combined maximum stay

Entry conditions

  • German citizens are granted a free visitor permit for up to 90 days on arrival at Honiara International Airport
  • Paid work is not permitted under the visitor permit; a separate work permit and visa are required for employment
  • Officers may ask to see return tickets and accommodation details before granting the full 90 days
  • Extensions can be requested at the Immigration Division in Honiara before the permit expires; approval and duration are at the discretion of immigration officials

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Confirm your onward travel plans, as domestic inter-island flights can be infrequent and affect your exit timing
  • Carry printed proof of accommodation, since some officers request it even for the free visitor permit
  • Arrange an extension at the Honiara Immigration Division at least a few days before your permit expires
  • Travel insurance with medevac coverage is highly recommended given limited medical infrastructure
  • Cash (Solomon Islands Dollar) is preferred outside Honiara; have some on hand for local fees
