Serbia Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

Visa Free

German citizens can enter Serbia visa-free and stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism or business.

Guide last updated October 14, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • A valid passport (a national ID card is not sufficient for Serbia, unlike EU/Schengen travel)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking, or address if staying privately - must be registered with local police within 24 hours)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (approx. EUR 50/day recommended, rarely checked at the border)
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory for EU citizens
  • No biometrics, photo, or visa fee for visa-free entry

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry: free, entry stamp at the border, valid for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period, covers tourism, business, and family visits
  • Temporary residence permit: required for stays over 90 days, work, or study; applied for at the Serbian Ministry of Interior (MUP) after arrival, fee approx. RSD 2,500-5,000 (~EUR 20-45)
  • Long-term business visa: for extended commercial activity, issued by the embassy, fee and conditions vary by purpose

Entry conditions

  • German citizens can stay in Serbia visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Paid work is not allowed without a work permit and corresponding residence permit
  • Accommodation must be registered with local police (white card registration) within 24 hours of arrival; hotels do this automatically, but private hosts must register guests themselves
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are not possible from within Serbia without converting to a residence permit; travelers must exit before the 90 days elapse

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee
  • Temporary residence permit (if needed): approx. RSD 2,500-5,000 (~EUR 20-45), plus document fees
  • No VFS/BLS outsourcing; residence permit applications are made directly at MUP offices in Serbia
  • Residence permit processing: typically 2-4 weeks
  • No visa-on-arrival fee or process applies to German citizens

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Always register your address with local police within 24 hours if not staying in a hotel, as this is checked on exit
  • Keep your entry stamp page accessible, since border officers may ask to see the date of entry to confirm the 90/180-day count
  • Common issue for long-term visitors: miscounting the rolling 180-day window, which can lead to an overstay fine or entry ban
  • Carry proof of accommodation and return travel, particularly if traveling overland from neighboring non-EU countries
  • Serbia is not in the Schengen area, so entries/exits here do not count against your Schengen 90/180-day allowance
