What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay (rarely checked but can be requested)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate recommended, though not mandatory for direct flights from Germany
  • No biometrics or photo required for visa-free entry
  • Travel health insurance recommended but not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry: no fee, issued as an entry stamp at the border, valid for stays up to 90 days per visit, single entry per stamp
  • Long-stay visa (sejour): required only for stays over 90 days or for work/study purposes; apply at the Senegalese embassy in Berlin, fee typically EUR 50-100 depending on purpose
  • Residence permit (carte de resident): needed for stays beyond 90 days once in-country, applied for locally at the Direction de la Police des Etrangers et des Titres de Voyage

Entry conditions

  • German citizens can stay up to 90 days without a visa for tourism, business meetings, or family visits
  • Paid employment is not permitted under visa-free entry; a work permit and long-stay visa are required for employment
  • On arrival at Blaise Diagne International Airport, present passport, return ticket, and accommodation details to immigration; an entry stamp is issued free of charge
  • The 90-day stay generally cannot be extended from within Senegal; travelers needing more time should apply for a long-stay visa before the 90 days expire

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee
  • Long-stay visa (if needed): approx. EUR 50-100 depending on purpose and duration, paid at the embassy
  • No VFS/BLS outsourcing for Senegal visas in Germany; applications go directly to the embassy
  • Long-stay visa processing: typically 5-10 working days
  • No express service generally available

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Confirm your passport has at least 6 months validity and two blank pages before departure
  • Carry proof of yellow fever vaccination if you have recently transited another African country, as spot checks occur
  • Keep a printed or digital copy of your return ticket and hotel booking, as officers sometimes request them
  • If planning to stay longer than 90 days, start the long-stay visa process at the Berlin embassy at least 3-4 weeks in advance
  • Senegal's rainy season (June-October) can affect flight schedules; build buffer time into travel plans
