German citizens can apply for Russia's unified e-visa online, allowing a single-entry stay of up to 16 days for tourism, business, or private visits, for a $52 fee with 4-working-day processing.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months after the intended stay
  • Digital passport-style photo (compliant JPEG) uploaded with the application, no printed copy needed
  • Mandatory travel medical insurance document uploaded with the application
  • Accommodation details (hotel booking or invitation) entered in the online form
  • No biometrics required for the e-visa itself, though fingerprint/photo checks occur on arrival at some airports
  • Proof of funds not requested at application but may be checked at the border

Visa types

  • Unified e-visa: tourism, business, humanitarian, or private purposes; single entry; valid 60 days for use from issue; permitted stay up to 16 days; fee $52
  • Traditional sticker visa: required for stays longer than 16 days or multiple entries, arranged via VFS or the Russian consulate

How to apply online

  • Apply at least 4 working days before travel via the official portal (electronic-visa.kdmid.ru)
  • Complete the form, upload the photo and insurance document, and pay the $52 fee by card
  • Approval or refusal is emailed as a PDF, which must be printed and carried with your passport
  • Enter only through one of the designated e-visa checkpoints (major airports and select land/sea crossings)

  • E-visa fee: $52 (about €48), non-refundable if refused
  • Standard processing: 4 working days, no expedited option available
  • Traditional consular visa: consular fee from around €35 plus VFS service fee, with 5-10 working days processing

  • Confirm your entry point matches the designated e-visa checkpoint list — arriving elsewhere with only an e-visa results in refused entry
