Paraguay Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

Visa Free

German citizens can enter Paraguay visa-free for tourism or business for up to 90 days per calendar year with just a valid passport.

Guide last updated October 13, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No visa or pre-registration required for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of onward or return travel may be requested by immigration officers
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay (cash, card statement) occasionally requested but rarely checked
  • No specific photo or biometric requirement for entry as a visa-free tourist
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended given limited public healthcare outside Asunción

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry — stamped on arrival, up to 90 days per calendar year, single or multiple entries within that allowance
  • Those wishing to work, study, or reside long-term must apply for a Paraguayan residency or work visa through a Paraguayan consulate before travel — not covered by the visa-free allowance

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 cumulative days within a calendar year (not automatically renewed by leaving and re-entering)
  • No work authorized under the visa-free entry; business meetings and conferences are permitted but paid employment is not
  • Present passport and return/onward ticket on arrival; an entry stamp is placed in the passport
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require an application at the Dirección General de Migraciones in Asunción before the allowance expires; extensions are limited and not guaranteed

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee — entry is free of charge for German passport holders
  • No processing time since no advance visa application is required
  • Overstays are fined per day and can lead to entry bans on future trips, so track your 90-day allowance carefully

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Carry a printed hotel reservation or invitation letter in case immigration asks for proof of itinerary
  • Because the 90-day limit is calendar-year based, frequent travelers should track days used rather than assume a fresh 90 days on each re-entry
  • Paraguay's foreign ministry portal (https://www.mre.gov.py/) has current entry requirement updates
  • Register with the German embassy in Asunción if staying for an extended period
  • Extensions are handled only by Dirección General de Migraciones — do not overstay expecting an automatic extension at the airport
