German citizens need a visa before traveling to Niger, applied for at a Nigerien diplomatic mission (commonly Brussels or Paris) with an invitation letter - there is no e-visa or arrival visa, and current security advisories warrant extra caution.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond entry with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed visa application form
  • 2 recent passport photos (35x45mm, white background)
  • Invitation letter from a host/sponsor in Niger or confirmed hotel booking
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory, International Certificate of Vaccination)
  • Proof of sufficient funds/bank statement
  • Travel health and medical evacuation insurance strongly recommended given limited medical infrastructure and security risks

  • Tourist visa - single entry, 30-90 days depending on mission
  • Business visa - single or multiple entry, requires a company invitation letter
  • Transit visa - short validity for onward travel
  • Niger has no standing consular service in Germany itself in recent years, so applications usually route through Niger's mission in Brussels or Paris - confirm the currently accredited mission before applying.

  • Submit your application in person or by mail to the nearest Nigerien diplomatic mission with all required documents. Interviews are occasionally requested. Given tightened issuance amid regional security concerns, also register your trip with the German Federal Foreign Office and review its current travel advisory, which has at times advised against all travel to large parts of Niger.
