What you need

  • No visa, form, or photo beyond the standard arrival card
  • Fingerprint/photo sometimes captured at Managua airport
  • Travel health insurance strongly recommended, as private clinics require upfront payment

Visa types

  • Not applicable - entry is visa-free for tourism/business up to 90 days. Longer stays require a residency application through the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería, a separate and more involved process.

Entry conditions

  • Entry stamp valid for up to 90 days, usable for travel throughout the whole CA-4 zone (Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala) without extra border formalities between those four countries. No work is permitted. One extension of up to 90 additional days can be requested at a Migración office in Managua before the initial period expires; overstaying incurs a daily fine and can complicate future entries.

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the initial 90-day stamp
  • A tourist card fee of around USD 10 is collected at some land borders/airports, often bundled into airport taxes
  • Processing is immediate at the border/airport
  • Extension fee: roughly USD 30-40, processed same-day to a few business days at the Managua immigration office

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Keep your entry stamp/tourist card receipt for departure
  • Track your cumulative days across all CA-4 countries, since crossing into Honduras, El Salvador, or Guatemala does not reset your 90-day clock
  • Carry small USD cash for border fees, as card payment isn't always available
  • Apply for any extension a few days before your 90 days run out, as Migración offices can have queues
