  • No biometrics beyond the in-app passport chip scan
  • Travel/medical insurance strongly recommended, though not legally mandatory for the visitor NZeTA

Visa types

  • NZeTA (visitor) - covers tourism, visiting family, and short business trips, up to 90 days per visit, multiple entries within its 2-year validity
  • Full Visitor, Work, or Student visa - required for longer stays, study, or work, applied for separately and in more detail through Immigration New Zealand

How to apply online

  • Apply via the NZeTA app (recommended) or myNZeTA.immigration.govt.nz, entering passport details, travel dates, and health/character declarations. Most approvals are automatic within minutes; some are referred for manual review and can take up to 72 hours. Apply at least 72 hours before departure, as airlines will deny boarding without an approved NZeTA linked to your passport.

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Use the app over the website - the chip scan is more reliable and slightly cheaper
  • Apply at least a week ahead despite the 72-hour SLA, in case your case is referred
  • Valid for 2 years or until passport expiry, so frequent visitors don't need to reapply each trip
  • Answer health/character questions honestly, as they are cross-checked and false declarations can lead to a ban
  • Keep your NZeTA/IVL confirmation accessible at check-in
