German citizens can enter Mongolia visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism; longer or work-related stays require a visa.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No visa needed for stays up to 30 days
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Sufficient funds for the stay
  • No photo required at entry
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo taken on arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport
  • Travel health insurance: strongly recommended, especially outside Ulaanbaatar

Visa types

  • Visa-free entry stamp - up to 30 days, tourism only, single entry
  • Tourist e-Visa - for stays of 31-90 days or multiple entries, apply online at evisa.mn, fee USD 53, processing 3-5 working days
  • Business/Work visa - requires an invitation letter from a Mongolian entity, apply at the Mongolian consulate in Berlin

Entry conditions

  • 30 days visa-free per stay for tourism
  • No work permitted under visa-free entry
  • Must register with the General Authority for Border Protection if staying longer than 30 days total in a calendar year (registration required within 7 days of arrival)
  • Extensions beyond 30 days require the e-Visa or a visa extension at the Immigration Agency in Ulaanbaatar

  • Tourist e-Visa: USD 53, processed online in 3-5 working days
  • Visa extension at the Immigration Agency: approx USD 2 per day, processed same day to 3 working days

  • Common rejection reason for the e-Visa: incomplete supporting documents (missing hotel booking or return ticket)
