What you need

  • Proof of onward or return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation recommended, not always checked
  • No biometrics required for tourist entry, though a fingerprint/photo may be captured at major airports
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry via FMM: single entry, valid for the authorized stay (up to 180 days), no separate visa fee if the FMM cost is bundled into the airfare
  • Temporary Resident Visa: for stays beyond 180 days or for work/study, applied for in advance at a Mexican consulate in Germany, fee approx. €36-€48
  • Permanent Resident Visa: for retirees or long-term residents, applied for at a Mexican consulate

  • No express service for the standard FMM since it is issued immediately on arrival

  • Airlines increasingly offer FMM online pre-registration, which speeds up immigration lines
  • Have a return ticket ready, as officers sometimes grant fewer days if onward plans look unclear
