Kiribati Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

Visa Free

German citizens can enter Kiribati visa-free for tourism, receiving a Visitor's Permit valid up to 90 days on arrival — just a valid passport, onward ticket and proof of funds are required.

Guide last updated September 9, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Confirmed onward or return flight ticket (flights to Kiribati are infrequent, so this is closely checked)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Sufficient funds for the stay
  • A completed arrival/immigration card, provided on the flight or at the airport
  • No biometrics required beyond standard immigration checks
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended given extremely limited medical facilities in Kiribati

Visa types

  • Not applicable for tourism/business visits — a Visitor's Permit is issued free of charge on arrival for up to 90 days
  • Work or resident permits, if needed, must be arranged in advance through Kiribati's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days visa-free entry for tourism or business, granted as a Visitor's Permit stamped in the passport on arrival
  • No paid employment allowed on a Visitor's Permit
  • Officers may request evidence of onward travel and funds given the remoteness of the islands and limited flight connections
  • Extensions can be requested from the Immigration Office in Tarawa before the initial permit expires, subject to officer discretion

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the Visitor's Permit issued on arrival
  • No advance processing time — the permit is issued immediately at the airport
  • Extension fees, if applicable, are minor and set locally by the Immigration Office

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Confirm your onward flight well in advance, since Kiribati has very limited international air links (mainly via Fiji)
  • Bring more cash than you think you'll need — banking and card facilities are extremely limited outside South Tarawa
  • Arrange travel health insurance with medical evacuation coverage, as serious medical care is not available locally
  • No particular bilateral advisories for German travelers beyond the general remoteness and infrastructure limitations of the islands
