Kenya Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

German citizens must apply for a Kenyan ETA online before travel — apply via the eCitizen-linked portal; fee USD 30, processing usually within 3 business days, valid for a single entry stay of up to 90 days.

Guide last updated September 9, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, with at least one blank page
  • A digital passport-style photo for the online application
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host details)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from or having transited a yellow-fever-risk country
  • No in-person biometrics for the ETA application itself; photo/fingerprint may be captured on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is recommended

Visa types

  • Single-entry Tourist/Business ETA — valid for a stay of up to 90 days, fee USD 30
  • East Africa Tourist Visa — a separate multi-entry option covering Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda for one combined fee (about USD 100), applied for through the same eCitizen-linked system if visiting all three countries
  • Transit ETA — for layovers, reduced validity and fee

How to apply online

  • Apply through the official Kenya eTA portal linked from ecitizen.go.ke, ideally at least a few days before departure
  • Create an account, upload passport details, photo and travel information
  • Pay the fee online by credit/debit card (USD 30 for the standard tourist ETA)
  • Processing usually takes up to 3 business days, though many are approved faster
  • Approval arrives by email as a PDF; print it or save it digitally to present at check-in and on arrival at a Kenyan port of entry

Fees & processing time

  • ETA fee: USD 30 for a single-entry tourist/business authorization
  • East Africa Tourist Visa (if applicable): about USD 100 for multi-country coverage
  • No separate agency fee when applying directly on the official portal
  • Standard processing: up to 3 business days
  • No official express option — apply at least a week ahead to leave margin for delays

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply at least 5–7 days before departure since processing can occasionally exceed the standard window
  • Common rejection/delay reasons: mismatched passport details, low-resolution photo uploads, or a missing yellow fever certificate for connecting travelers
  • Only use the official eCitizen-linked ETA portal — third-party sites often charge inflated fees for the same process
  • Extensions beyond 90 days can be requested at the Department of Immigration Services in Nairobi before the ETA-granted period expires
