  • A valid German national ID card (Personalausweis) or passport - either suffices under EU and Schengen free movement rules
  • No visa, application, photo or biometrics required
  • No minimum funds requirement
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory; the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or German statutory insurance card covers reciprocal public healthcare
  • Since both countries are in the Schengen Area, there are typically no routine border checks when crossing by land, rail or most flights
