German citizens receive a Visa on Arrival for Indonesia - buy it on arrival or pre-pay online at molina.imigrasi.go.id; fee IDR 500,000 (about USD 32), valid 30 days and extendable once for another 30 days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival, with at least one blank page
  • No paper application form needed if paying online via the e-VOA portal (molina.imigrasi.go.id); a QR code is generated after payment
  • Proof of onward or return ticket within 30 days
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) may be requested
  • No fixed minimum funds requirement enforced in practice, though officers occasionally ask for proof of funds
  • No photo required for the VOA
  • No biometrics collected at the VOA counter; fingerprints and a photo are taken at the immigration counter or autogate on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival (tourism/business, single entry): 30 days, extendable once for 30 more days, IDR 500,000
  • Business Visa (B211A), for activities beyond VOA scope: single entry, 60 days, extendable up to 180 days total depending on sponsor, fee from IDR 2,000,000
  • Social-Cultural Visa: 60 days, for family visits or short courses, sponsor required
  • Second Home Visa: 5 or 10 years, requires an IDR 2 billion deposit, not relevant for short tourism

Visa on arrival

  • Apply online in advance at molina.imigrasi.go.id (recommended) or pay on arrival at designated VOA counters at major airports (Jakarta, Bali/Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan) and some seaports
  • Steps: create an account, upload the passport photo page, pay IDR 500,000 (about USD 32) by credit card, receive a QR code
  • On arrival, scan the QR code at the VOA counter or autogate; the passport is stamped with a 30-day stay permit
  • Extension: visit a local immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) at least a few days before expiry, pay IDR 500,000 for a 30-day extension, without leaving the country
  • Fee is usually paid online in IDR by card; some airport counters also accept USD or EUR cash

  • Online e-VOA processing: usually instant to a few hours after payment
  • Extension fee: IDR 500,000 for 30 additional days, processed same day at the immigration office
  • No separate service fee when applying directly through the official portal

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply for the e-VOA a few days before departure to skip the airport payment queue
  • Common issue for German travelers: passport validity under 6 months at the time of travel - renew well ahead
  • Keep the VOA QR code or receipt and boarding pass until after immigration clearance
  • Overstaying is fined IDR 1,000,000 (about USD 65) per day up to 60 days, beyond which deportation and entry bans can apply
  • Extensions must be done in-country; the VOA cannot be converted to a different visa type without leaving and re-entering Indonesia
