Visa on Arrival

German citizens can get a Visa on Arrival for Indonesia for IDR 500,000 (about USD 32), valid 30 days and extendable once for another 30 days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least 1 blank page
  • Cash (IDR or USD) or card to pay the Visa on Arrival fee at the airport, or pre-pay online via the e-VOA system
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) may be requested
  • No photo required at the counter (a photo is taken digitally as part of the process)
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo are captured at the immigration counter on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but recommended

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): single entry, valid for a stay of up to 30 days, fee IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 32), extendable once for another 30 days
  • Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA): the same visa purchased online in advance via molina.imigrasi.go.id, allowing faster processing on arrival by scanning a QR code
  • Business Visa on Arrival: same fee and validity as tourist VOA, but permits attending meetings, seminars, or business negotiations (not paid work)
  • Long-term stays, work, or investment require a separate visa (e.g. KITAS) applied for through an Indonesian embassy or sponsor in Indonesia before travel

Visa on arrival

  • Available at major international airports including Soekarno-Hatta (Jakarta), Ngurah Rai (Bali/Denpasar), and other designated ports of entry
  • On arrival, either scan your pre-purchased e-VOA QR code at an e-VOA kiosk, or join the Visa on Arrival counter, complete a short form, and pay IDR 500,000 in cash or by card
  • Processing at the counter typically takes 10-20 minutes depending on queue length; e-VOA holders usually pass through faster via self-service kiosks
  • After payment, proceed to the immigration counter for photo and fingerprint capture, then passport stamping
  • To extend the VOA for another 30 days, visit a local immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) before the initial 30 days expire, paying an additional IDR 500,000

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Pre-purchasing the e-VOA online before departure saves significant time in the arrival queue, especially at busy airports like Bali's Ngurah Rai
  • Apply for your 30-day extension well before the deadline, ideally a week in advance, since immigration offices can be busy and processing can take a few days
  • The VOA does not permit any paid work in Indonesia, even remote work for a foreign employer is technically outside its scope - digital nomads should research Indonesia's separate remote-worker visa options
  • Keep your printed or digital hotel booking accessible, as it is occasionally requested at the immigration counter
  • This stay does not count against your Schengen 90/180-day allowance
