  • Completed visa application form (available from the Eritrean embassy)
  • A letter of invitation from a sponsor, host, or tour operator in Eritrea is generally required
  • Proof of return/onward travel and a detailed itinerary
  • Two recent passport-style photos (white background)
  • No biometrics collected in Germany; fingerprints may be taken on arrival in Asmara
  • Travel health insurance is recommended; a yellow fever certificate is required if arriving from an at-risk country

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single entry, typically valid for a stay of up to 30 days, arranged through a registered tour operator or invitation
