German citizens can enter the Dominican Republic visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days by completing the mandatory online E-Ticket form before arrival - no separate tourist card purchase is required.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of the stay
  • Completed E-Ticket online immigration and customs form, submitted before departure - this has replaced the paper tourist card for most travelers
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds is rarely checked but useful to have
  • No mandatory travel health insurance, though recommended
  • No biometric enrollment beyond a photo at some immigration checkpoints

Visa types

  • Tourists from Germany need no visa for stays up to 30 days, only the E-Ticket registration. For other purposes, arranged through the Dominican consulate in Germany:
  • Business Visa - for extended commercial activity beyond what tourist status allows
  • Residency Visa - for those planning to settle, apply before travel at the consulate
  • Student Visa - for enrollment at a Dominican institution
  • Routine tourists do not need to apply for any visa category in advance.

Entry conditions

  • Maximum stay: 30 days under the standard tourist entry; a further extension can be requested at the Dirección General de Migración before the stay expires
  • Overstaying incurs a fee at the airport on departure calculated per extra day, or a flat penalty if requested in advance
  • Tourists may not work or receive local income
  • The E-Ticket form must be completed within 7 days before travel and presented (via QR code) at both departure and arrival

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee and no charge for the E-Ticket registration itself
  • Overstay fee (if applicable) is charged per day beyond the 30-day limit, payable at the airport on departure
  • Extension processed in advance at Migración carries a modest fee
  • Total cost for a standard visit within 30 days: EUR 0

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Complete the E-Ticket form for both entry and exit before your trip - it is mandatory and checked at boarding in Germany as well as on arrival
  • Keep a screenshot or printout of your E-Ticket QR code in case of connectivity issues at the airport
  • If your holiday will run past 30 days, request an extension at a Migración office before the deadline rather than paying the overstay fee
  • Carry your hotel confirmation for the first nights of your stay
  • All-inclusive resort travelers rarely have issues, but independent travelers should keep proof of accommodation for each leg of a multi-stop trip
