Congo Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

Visa Required

German citizens need a visa to enter the Republic of the Congo, applied for in advance through the Congolese embassy, typically valid for a single entry of up to 30-90 days.

Guide last updated September 8, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed visa application form (available from the embassy or its website)
  • Two recent passport-size photos, 35x45mm, white background
  • A formal invitation letter from a host in Congo, or a hotel booking and detailed itinerary for tourism
  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination - mandatory, checked both when applying and on arrival
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the trip (bank statement)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended and sometimes requested
  • Fingerprints may be taken on arrival even though the embassy stage usually does not require biometrics

Visa types

  • Tourist Visa - single entry, valid up to 30-90 days depending on the embassy's assessment, fee typically EUR 70-100
  • Business Visa - single or multiple entry, requires an invitation from a Congolese company or partner, fee typically EUR 90-150
  • Transit Visa - short validity for travelers connecting through Congolese territory
  • Multiple-entry visas are occasionally granted to frequent business travelers but are decided case by case.

How to apply

  • Applications are usually submitted directly at the Congolese embassy in Berlin, as there is no dedicated VFS/BLS outsourcing center in Germany
  • Steps: gather the documents above, book an appointment or submit by mail/in person, pay the fee by bank transfer or cash as instructed, then wait for processing
  • Some applicants can alternatively obtain an e-visa authorization letter online before travel and collect the visa on arrival at Maya-Maya Airport in Brazzaville - check current availability with the embassy, as this option has been inconsistently offered
  • An interview is not usually required for straightforward tourist applications but may be requested for business visas
  • Standard processing: 5-10 working days; express service is not widely available

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist visa fee: approximately EUR 70-100
  • Business visa fee: approximately EUR 90-150
  • No separate VFS service fee since applications go directly to the embassy
  • Standard processing time: 5-10 working days
  • Total cost for a typical tourist application: roughly EUR 80-110 including postage or courier if applying by mail

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks before departure to allow for embassy processing time and possible requests for extra documents
  • Common rejection reasons: missing yellow fever certificate, vague or missing invitation letter, and insufficient proof of funds
  • Confirm the embassy's current submission method (in person vs. by mail) before sending original documents
  • Carry a printed copy of your visa and yellow fever certificate throughout your trip, as both are checked again at the port of entry
  • Extensions of stay must be requested at the Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire in Brazzaville before the visa expires
