German citizens can obtain a Cambodian visa on arrival for USD 30 at major airports and land borders, or apply in advance for an e-Visa at evisa.gov.kh for about USD 36 with 3-day processing.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least one blank page
  • One passport-style photo (required for visa on arrival; uploaded digitally for the e-Visa)
  • Completed visa application form (on arrival) or online form (for the e-Visa)
  • Proof of accommodation and a return/onward ticket may be requested
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay
  • No mandatory biometrics for standard tourist entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended but not mandatory

Visa types

  • Tourist visa (on arrival or e-Visa, visa class T): single entry, valid for a stay of 30 days, fee USD 30 (on arrival) or USD 36 (e-Visa, including processing fee)
  • Ordinary/business visa (class E): single entry, 30 days, extendable multiple times, fee similar to the tourist visa but allows work-related extensions
  • E-Visa is only valid for entry through Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airports plus select border checkpoints - land entry at some remote crossings still requires the on-arrival process

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville International Airports, plus most major land borders
  • Present your passport, one photo, and the completed arrival form at the visa counter before immigration
  • Pay the USD 30 fee in cash (USD preferred, though riel is sometimes accepted)
  • Processing typically takes 10-20 minutes depending on queue length
  • Alternatively, apply for the e-Visa at evisa.gov.kh at least a few days before travel to skip the on-arrival counter entirely

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on arrival: USD 30 plus a small photo fee if you don't bring your own (around USD 2)
  • E-Visa: USD 36 total (USD 30 visa fee plus USD 6 processing fee), paid online by card
  • Standard e-Visa processing: 3 business days
  • On-arrival visas are issued same-day at the airport or border

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply for the e-Visa in advance if you want to avoid airport queues, especially during peak tourist season (November-March)
  • Bring your own passport photo for the on-arrival option to save time and the extra photo fee
  • Carry small USD bills, as change for larger notes is not always readily available at border counters
  • Extensions can be arranged easily in Phnom Penh through local visa agents for both tourist and ordinary visas
  • Double-check that your entry point accepts the e-Visa before relying on it, particularly for remote land crossings
