German citizens can obtain a visa on arrival at Cambodian international airports and land borders, or apply for an e-visa online in advance; the standard tourist visa costs USD 30 (plus a small processing fee for the e-visa) and is typically issued immediately on arrival or within 1-3 business days for the e-visa.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry, with at least one blank page
  • One passport-sized photo (4x6cm) for the visa-on-arrival form (also required, digitally, for the e-visa)
  • Completed arrival visa application form (available at the border) or the online e-visa application
  • Proof of onward/return travel and accommodation may be requested
  • Cash (USD) for visa-on-arrival fees, as not all border points accept card
  • Travel health insurance is recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist (T) visa: single entry, 30 days validity, extendable once for 30 days
  • Ordinary (E) visa: for business or longer stays, single entry initially but extendable multiple times, including to a multiple-entry business visa
  • E-visa: equivalent to the tourist (T) visa, applied for entirely online, valid for entry at major airports and select land borders only
  • Visa on arrival: available at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airports and most land border crossings

  • An e-visa obtained in advance online can speed up airport arrival by skipping the on-the-spot form, though it does not skip immigration queues entirely
  • Not all land borders accept the e-visa, so check the current list before relying on it for an overland entry

  • Visa on arrival fee: USD 30 for the standard tourist visa (a small additional passport-photo/processing fee sometimes applies at the border)
  • E-visa fee: USD 30 plus a USD 6 processing fee, paid online
  • E-visa processing time: typically 1-3 working days
  • Extensions (via a local visa agent in Phnom Penh) cost roughly USD 45-90 depending on how many days are added, processed in about a week

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Applying for the e-visa in advance is usually faster and avoids handling cash at the border, but confirm your entry point accepts it
