German citizens can enter Bolivia visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days per calendar year; only a valid passport, proof of onward travel, and (recommended) travel insurance are needed at the border.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry
  • Proof of onward or return travel (airlines and border officials may request this)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay is occasionally requested but rarely enforced for German travelers
  • No visa application, appointment, or biometrics are required for visa-free entry
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended, and a yellow fever certificate is advisable if you plan to visit lowland/Amazon regions or transit through a yellow-fever-endemic country
  • No specific photo requirement since no visa is issued for tourist entries

  • Longer stays, work, or study require a Visa de Objeto Determinado (specific-purpose visa) applied for at a Bolivian consulate in Germany before travel

  • Keep track of cumulative days spent in Bolivia if you make multiple trips within the same calendar year, since the 90-day allowance is annual, not per visit
  • Register any change of purpose (e.g. taking up work) with Migracion promptly rather than waiting until your 90 days run out
  • Consider travel insurance that covers high-altitude regions, since La Paz and much of the country sit above 3,000 meters
  • Keep a copy of your passport and entry stamp separately in case of loss
