German citizens can enter Belarus visa-free for up to 30 days when arriving by air through Minsk National Airport under Belarus's unilateral visa-free regime; other entry points still require a visa.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your entry date
  • No visa or application form needed if flying directly into Minsk National Airport
  • Return or onward ticket out of Belarus within the 30-day window
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation) may be requested by border officers
  • Travel medical insurance is strongly recommended though not strictly checked for this visa-free route
  • No biometrics required for the visa-free entry
  • A passport-size photo is only needed if you later apply for a visa (not for the visa-free route)

Visa types

  • Visa-free entry (Minsk airport only): single stay up to 30 days, no fee, no application
  • Tourist visa (C-type, for land/other entry points or stays over 30 days): single or multiple entry, valid up to 90 days, fee around EUR 60
  • Business visa: multiple entry, 1-year validity available, fee around EUR 60-100
  • Transit visa: for connections outside the visa-free window, fee around EUR 20-25

Entry conditions

  • The 30-day visa-free period applies only to direct international flights landing at Minsk National Airport
  • Entering or exiting via land borders, Minsk-2 charter terminals, or other airports still requires a visa obtained in advance
  • Employment and long-term study are not permitted under the visa-free regime
  • Extensions beyond 30 days are not available without converting to a regular visa at the Department of Citizenship and Migration
  • Keep your immigration (migration) card issued on arrival - you must surrender it on departure

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry via Minsk airport: no fee
  • Standard tourist/business visa (if needed for other entry points): approx. EUR 60 (about USD 65), processing 5-7 working days through the Belarusian embassy in Berlin
  • Express processing (2-3 working days): additional fee of roughly EUR 30-40
  • No VFS/BLS outsourcing is used - applications go directly through the Belarusian consular section

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Book flights that land directly at Minsk National Airport to qualify for the visa-free regime - charter and connecting flights via other hubs may not count
  • Check the German Federal Foreign Office's current travel advisory for Belarus before booking, as the security and political situation has led to repeated advisory updates
  • If you need a land-border crossing (e.g., from Lithuania, Latvia, or Poland), apply for a visa well in advance at the Belarusian embassy in Berlin
  • Carry printed proof of your return flight and hotel booking, as airport border guards may ask for both
  • Register your stay with local authorities if staying more than 5 days, which is normally handled automatically by your hotel
