Guide last updated September 8, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • Completed online e-visa application via evisa.gov.az (ASAN Visa portal)
  • Digital passport-style photo uploaded during the application
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) may be requested during application or on arrival
  • Return or onward ticket recommended to have available
  • Biometrics: not required for the e-visa; standard passport check on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Single-entry e-Visa (tourist/business): valid 90 days from issue for use, allows a stay of up to 30 days, fee around USD 25
  • Double-entry e-Visa: allows two entries within 90 days, each stay up to 30 days, fee around USD 30
  • Ordinary visa (for stays over 30 days or specific purposes): apply through the Azerbaijani Embassy in Berlin; fee varies by category
  • Work visa: required for employment, sponsored by an Azerbaijani employer, arranged through the State Migration Service before travel

How to apply online

  • Apply at evisa.gov.az (the official ASAN Visa e-visa portal); avoid third-party sites that charge extra fees
  • Steps: register an account, fill in passport and travel details, upload passport photo page and photo, select single or double entry, pay online
  • Fee: approximately USD 25-30 (roughly EUR 23-28) payable by credit/debit card
  • Processing time: typically 3 business days, though it can occasionally take up to 5-7 days
  • Approval arrives via email as a PDF e-visa; print it and carry it along with your passport when traveling

Fees & processing time

  • Single-entry e-visa: approximately USD 25
  • Double-entry e-visa: approximately USD 30
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee, as the ASAN e-visa system is direct and self-service
  • Standard processing: 3 business days
  • Express service: not officially offered, but applying well in advance avoids any delay risk

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply only through the official evisa.gov.az site — several unofficial lookalike sites charge higher fees for the same service
  • Apply at least a week before travel to allow for any processing delays
  • Common rejection reason: passport photo or bio-data page scan being unclear or not meeting size requirements
  • Print the approved e-visa PDF and carry a physical copy, as some border points may not have reliable internet access to verify digital copies
  • Note that e-visa holders cannot easily extend their stay locally — plan trip length carefully before applying
