Guide last updated September 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date, with at least 1 blank page
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay (bank statement or cash)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • No visa application form needed for visa-free entry
  • No biometrics collection at the border for visa-free tourist/business entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, not mandatory
  • Yellow fever certificate required only if arriving from a yellow-fever-endemic country

Visa types

  • No visa is required for French citizens visiting Zambia for tourism or business for up to 90 days total per calendar year
  • KAZA UniVisa (USD 50): optional multi-entry visa covering both Zambia and Zimbabwe plus day trips to Botswana via Kazungulu, useful for Victoria Falls itineraries
  • Work permits and long-stay permits are separate applications handled through the Department of Immigration in Lusaka and are required for any paid work or stays beyond 90 days

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 cumulative days per calendar year without a visa
  • No employment or paid work is permitted under visa-free entry
  • On arrival, present your passport, return ticket, and proof of funds/accommodation to immigration at the port of entry (Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Livingstone, or land borders)
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require an application to the Department of Immigration headquarters in Lusaka before the visa-free period expires
  • Overstaying incurs fines and can affect future entry

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for visa-free entry itself
  • KAZA UniVisa (optional, if adding Zimbabwe/Botswana legs): USD 50, issued on arrival, same-day
  • Visa extension application fee: approximately USD 30-50, processed within 1-3 working days at the Lusaka immigration office
  • No advance processing needed for the standard visa-free entry

Tips for France travelers

  • Carry a printed return or onward ticket, as border officers may ask for it
  • Keep proof of funds accessible (bank card plus a recent statement is usually sufficient)
  • If your itinerary includes Victoria Falls, the KAZA UniVisa is more convenient than separate Zambia/Zimbabwe entries
  • Check the current yellow fever vaccination requirement before departure if transiting through an endemic country
  • Apply for any extension well before day 90 to avoid overstay penalties
