Turkey Visa for France Citizens 2026

Visa Free

French citizens can enter Turkey visa-free for tourism or business for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, provided the passport is valid for the full stay.

Guide last updated September 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the intended duration of stay in Turkey (no minimum 6-month rule enforced for EU passports, but a passport with at least a few months' validity is recommended)
  • No visa or e-Visa application required for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of onward or return travel may be requested by border officers
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter) recommended
  • No biometrics collection on entry
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended given Turkey's private healthcare costs for foreigners

Visa types

  • Visa-exempt tourist/business entry: covers tourism, family visits, and short business trips, up to 90 days within 180 days, multiple entries allowed within that window
  • Longer stays (over 90 days), study, or work require a residence permit or the relevant long-stay visa obtained through a Turkish consulate before travel

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days within any 180-day period, visa-free
  • No paid work permitted under the visa-exempt entry
  • On arrival, present your passport and be ready to show a return/onward ticket and proof of accommodation if asked
  • To stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a short-term residence permit (ikamet) through Turkey's Directorate General of Migration Management before the 90 days expire; overstaying without a permit results in fines and possible entry bans

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the visa-free entry itself
  • If applying for a residence permit for longer stays, government fees vary by permit type (roughly EUR 50-120 equivalent in Turkish lira, plus a residence card fee)
  • Residence permit applications are typically processed within 30-90 days after the appointment
  • No express option for the visa-free entry since no visa is issued

Tips for France travelers

  • Keep a digital and paper copy of your passport photo page and any hotel confirmations while in Turkey
  • If you plan to stay near or over 90 days, start the ikamet residence permit application at least 30 days before your visa-free period ends, as appointment slots fill up quickly
  • Common issue for French travelers: assuming the 90/180 rule resets on exit and re-entry — it does not, it is a rolling window
  • Check the current French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs travel advisory for Turkey before departure, especially regarding border regions
