Visa Free

French citizens can enter Thailand visa-free for stays of up to 60 days under the visa exemption scheme, with just a valid passport required at the border.

Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry
  • No visa required for stays up to 60 days under the tourist visa exemption
  • Completion of the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival
  • Proof of onward/return ticket, commonly checked at check-in
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay
  • Proof of funds (around THB 20,000 per person or THB 40,000 per family) may be requested, though rarely checked in practice
  • No photo requirement for entry
  • Biometrics: fingerprint and photo taken at immigration on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory for tourist entry

Visa types

  • Visa exemption (tourist): stay up to 60 days, extendable once, no fee
  • Business visits under 60 days can also use the visa exemption for meetings, though formal business activity typically needs a Non-Immigrant B visa
  • Longer stays, work, retirement, or study require the appropriate visa category applied for in advance, often through the online evisa.go.th portal or the Thai embassy

Entry conditions

  • French citizens may stay in Thailand for up to 60 days visa-free per entry
  • Employment is not permitted under the visa exemption
  • Complete the TDAC online within 72 hours of arrival, and present your passport, return ticket, and accommodation details at immigration
  • A one-time extension of up to 30 days can be obtained at any Thai immigration office for a fee

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa exemption entry
  • No VFS/BLS fee applies to the visa-free route
  • Total cost: none beyond standard entry formalities and the free TDAC registration
  • No processing time for entry itself; TDAC submission takes a few minutes online
  • Extension fee at immigration: THB 1,900 for the 30-day extension, processed same-day

Tips for France travelers

  • Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online shortly before your flight to avoid delays at immigration
  • Most entry issues stem from a missing TDAC submission or lack of an onward ticket — prepare both in advance
  • Not applicable — no embassy or VFS process is needed for the visa-free stay
  • Keep a copy of your accommodation booking accessible, as it may be requested at immigration
  • For a longer stay, request the 30-day extension at any Thai immigration office before your 60 days expire, or exit and re-enter (subject to current rules on repeat visa-free entries)
