e-Visa / eTA

French citizens need an eTA for Suriname, applied for online in advance of travel; fee around USD 25, approval typically issued within a few days.

Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
  • No paper form beyond the online eTA application
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay (not always checked but recommended to carry)
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Accommodation details (hotel booking or host address) for the online form
  • Digital passport-style photo uploaded during the online application
  • Biometrics: none required for the eTA itself; standard immigration checks on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • eTA (Electronic Tourist Authorization): single entry, valid 90 days from issue for use, permits stay up to 90 days, approx USD 25
  • Business eTA: same online process, select business purpose, similar validity and fee
  • Longer-stay or work visas require a separate application through the Surinamese consulate, not covered by the eTA

How to apply online

  • Apply via the official Suriname eTA portal linked through vfsglobal.com/suriname
  • Create an account, complete the online form with passport and travel details
  • Upload a digital passport photo and passport bio page scan
  • Pay the fee (about USD 25) online by credit or debit card
  • Processing is typically completed within 2-5 business days
  • Approval is emailed as a PDF; print it or keep it accessible on your phone to show at check-in and on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • eTA fee: approximately USD 25 (paid online)
  • No separate VFS service fee for the standard eTA channel
  • Total estimated cost: about USD 25-30 including card processing charges
  • Standard processing: 2-5 business days
  • Expedited processing is sometimes available for an extra fee if applying close to travel dates; check the portal at time of application

Tips for France travelers

  • Apply at least a week before departure to avoid last-minute delays
  • Common rejection/delay reasons: mismatched passport details, blurry photo uploads, unpaid or failed payment
  • Applying directly through the official portal is preferred over third-party sites that charge inflated service fees
  • Keep a printed copy of the eTA approval, as some airlines check it before boarding
  • Stay extensions beyond 90 days require an in-person visit to the Immigration Department in Paramaribo before expiry
