Sudan Visa for France Citizens 2026

Visa Required

French citizens need a visa to enter Sudan, obtained in advance from the Sudanese Embassy; standard tourist/business visas cost around EUR 100 and take 1-3 weeks to process, with Sudan not offering e-visas or visas on arrival to French nationals.

Guide last updated October 27, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed Sudanese visa application form (available from the embassy)
  • Letter of invitation from a Sudanese sponsor, host or company (generally required for both tourist and business visas)
  • Two recent passport-size photos (white background)
  • Proof of accommodation and a return/onward ticket
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (required for entry into Sudan)
  • Travel health insurance recommended given current security and health conditions
  • Biometrics (fingerprints) may be collected at the embassy or on arrival in Khartoum

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single entry, valid 1-3 months from issue, max stay 30 days, fee around EUR 80-100
  • Business visa: single or multiple entry, up to 90 days, requires a company invitation letter, fee around EUR 100-150
  • Journalist/NGO visa: requires separate government and ministry clearance, processed only through the embassy with additional documentation

How to apply

  • Submit the application in person or through the Sudanese Embassy in Paris (or an authorized visa agency) - there is no VFS/BLS outsourcing for Sudan in France
  • Documents checklist: passport, application form, photos, invitation letter, flight itinerary, hotel booking, yellow fever certificate
  • Fee is paid by bank transfer or in cash at the embassy, in euros
  • Standard processing: 1-3 weeks; some applications require additional security clearance from Khartoum, which can extend processing to 4-6 weeks
  • No interview is normally required for straightforward tourist applications, but business/NGO visas may require one

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: approximately EUR 80-150 depending on visa type and number of entries
  • No separate service fee since the embassy processes applications directly
  • Standard processing: 1-3 weeks; allow extra time given current administrative disruptions in Sudan
  • No expedited/priority service is generally available

Tips for France travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks before travel given slower-than-usual embassy processing and possible security clearance delays
  • Secure a solid invitation letter from a verifiable Sudanese host or company - applications without one are the most common rejection reason
  • Check France Diplomatie's travel advisory before booking, as parts of Sudan are subject to formal no-travel advice due to ongoing conflict
  • Get the yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before departure and carry the certificate at all times
  • There is no extension process reliably available inside Sudan currently - apply for the correct visa validity before departure
