New Zealand Visa for France Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

French citizens need an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before flying - apply via the NZeTA app (NZD 17) or website (NZD 23) plus a NZD 100 International Visitor Levy, valid 2 years for stays up to 90 days.

Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from New Zealand
  • A digital passport photo if applying by app, or passport bio-page scan if applying online
  • Proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds (around NZD 1,000 per month of stay, or NZD 400 if accommodation is prepaid)
  • Accommodation details for at least the first few nights
  • A payment card to pay the NZeTA fee and the IVL (International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy)

Visa types

  • NZeTA Visitor - covers tourism and business visits up to 90 days per visit, multiple entry, valid 2 years or until passport expiry
  • Working Holiday Scheme visa - separate application, annual quota, for travelers aged 18-30
  • Student and work visas are separate applications not covered by the NZeTA

How to apply online

  • Apply through the official NZeTA mobile app (cheaper, NZD 17) or at immigration.govt.nz (NZD 23)
  • Enter passport details, upload/take a photo, answer health and character eligibility questions
  • Pay the IVL of NZD 100 in the same application
  • Most approvals arrive by email within a few hours, though it can take up to 72 hours - apply at least 3 days before departure
  • The NZeTA is linked electronically to your passport - there is no sticker or stamp to collect

Fees & processing time

  • NZeTA fee: NZD 17 via the app or NZD 23 via the website
  • IVL (International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy): NZD 100
  • Total: roughly NZD 117-123 (about USD 70-75)
  • Processing: typically within a few hours, officially up to 72 hours; no paid express option exists

Tips for France travelers

  • Apply at least 72 hours before your flight even though most requests clear faster
  • Make sure the passport number entered matches exactly the passport you travel with - a new passport requires a new NZeTA
  • Airlines will check for a valid NZeTA at check-in, so keep the confirmation email accessible
  • French citizens aged 18-30 may prefer the separate Working Holiday visa for stays beyond 90 days or paid work
