Kenya Visa for France Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

French citizens need Kenya's Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), applied for online via ecitizen.go.ke, costing USD 30 and typically approved within 72 hours, allowing a single-entry stay of up to 90 days.

Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, with at least one blank page
  • Completed online eTA application through Kenya's official eTA system, accessible via ecitizen.go.ke
  • Digital passport photo uploaded during the application
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host details)
  • Biometrics: photo and fingerprints may be captured on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or other entry points
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but recommended; a yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory if arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever-endemic country

Visa types

  • Tourist eTA: single entry, valid for a stay of up to 90 days, fee USD 30
  • Business eTA: same application process, for short business visits, fee USD 30
  • Transit eTA: for layovers, reduced validity, lower or no fee depending on transit duration

How to apply online

  • Apply via Kenya's official eTA portal (accessible from ecitizen.go.ke), providing passport, travel, and accommodation details
  • Upload your digital photo and passport bio-page scan
  • Pay the USD 30 fee online by credit/debit card
  • Processing time is typically within 72 hours; approval is emailed as a digital authorization linked to your passport
  • Present the printed or digital eTA approval, passport, and yellow fever certificate (if applicable) on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • eTA fee: USD 30
  • No separate service fee when applying directly on the official portal
  • Total cost estimate: USD 30-35 including payment processing
  • Standard processing time: up to 72 hours
  • Express option: not formally offered; apply at least a week before departure to be safe

Tips for France travelers

  • Apply online at least 1 week before departure, ideally as soon as travel dates are confirmed
  • Common rejection reasons: blurry document uploads, mismatched personal details, missing yellow fever certificate for connecting travelers
  • Only use the official government eTA portal; third-party sites often charge inflated fees
  • Check France Diplomatie advisories for region-specific safety guidance, especially near the Somali border
  • Extensions beyond 90 days must be requested from the Directorate of Immigration Services in Kenya before the eTA-granted period expires
