Iraq Visa for France Citizens 2026

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed online application at evisa.gov.iq (no separate paper form)
  • Confirmed hotel booking, or a local sponsor/invitation letter for business e-visas
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Digital passport-style photo, white background, uploaded during the application
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured on arrival at the airport, not required in advance
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but strongly recommended given limited healthcare infrastructure outside major cities

Visa types

  • Tourist e-visa: single entry, valid 60 days from issue date for entry, permits a stay of up to 30 days, fee approx USD 75-77
  • Business e-visa: single or multiple entry, requires an inviting company letter, stay up to 30 days per entry, fee approx USD 75-77 plus a possible service charge for multiple entry
  • Note: the e-visa covers federal Iraq only; the Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah) issues its own free 30-day visa on arrival to French citizens, separate from the federal e-visa

How to apply online

  • Apply at evisa.gov.iq, create an account, fill in personal and trip details, and upload your passport bio-page scan and photo
  • Pay the fee online by credit/debit card in USD
  • Processing time is typically 3-5 business days; you receive a PDF e-visa approval by email to print and present at check-in and on arrival
  • On arrival, present the printed e-visa, passport, and return ticket; fingerprints and photo are taken at the immigration desk

Tips for France travelers

  • Book directly through the official evisa.gov.iq portal; avoid third-party sites charging inflated service fees
  • Check France Diplomatie advisories, which currently urge caution for travel outside the Kurdistan Region
  • Extensions beyond 30 days must be arranged with the Iraqi Directorate of Residency before the visa expires; overstay fines apply
