Guatemala Visa for France Citizens 2026

Visa Free

French citizens can enter Guatemala visa-free for up to 90 days with a valid passport, covering both Guatemala and the CA-4 Central American bloc.

Guide last updated September 22, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned entry date
  • No visa application form required for entry
  • Proof of onward or return travel may be requested by the airline
  • Proof of accommodation may be requested by immigration but is rarely checked
  • No specific photo requirements for entry
  • No biometrics collected on arrival
  • Travel health insurance not mandatory but recommended

Visa types

  • No visa is required for tourism up to 90 days. Guatemala is part of the CA-4 Border Control Agreement with El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua, so your 90 days is shared across all four countries combined, not per country. Other categories:
  • Work permit: required for paid employment, arranged with a local sponsor
  • Student permit: required for enrollment at a Guatemalan institution
  • Residency: for stays beyond tourism, applied for through Guatemalan immigration (Direccion General de Migracion)

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days total within the CA-4 zone (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua combined), stamped on arrival
  • No work permitted under visa-free entry
  • Extensions can be requested at the Direccion General de Migracion in Guatemala City before the 90 days expire
  • Leaving and re-entering the CA-4 zone (e.g., a trip to Belize or Mexico) can reset or extend your permitted stay, subject to current immigration rules

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for entry
  • No processing time — entry is granted on arrival with a passport stamp
  • Extension fee at Direccion General de Migracion: approximately 200 to 300 quetzales (roughly 25 to 35 euros)
  • No VFS or agency fees for standard entry

Tips for France travelers

  • Track your cumulative days across the whole CA-4 zone, not just Guatemala, to avoid accidental overstay
  • Keep your entry stamp and boarding passes as proof of your travel dates
  • Apply for extensions before the 90 days lapse — fines apply for overstaying
  • Direct flights from France to Guatemala are rare; most routes connect through the US or Mexico City, so check US/Mexico transit visa requirements separately
