Dominican Republic Visa for France Citizens 2026

Visa Free

French citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays in the Dominican Republic of up to 30 days — a valid passport and the online e-ticket/immigration form are all that's required.

Guide last updated September 22, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the full length of stay (valid at time of entry; airlines commonly require 6 months' validity)
  • Completed Dominican Republic e-Ticket (combined customs and immigration declaration) via entradadominicana.gob.do before travel — free of charge
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or host address)
  • No specific minimum funds documentation usually requested for short tourist stays
  • Photo: not required for the e-Ticket, only a valid passport scan
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo may be taken at the airport as part of standard immigration control
  • Travel health insurance: recommended; some all-inclusive resorts include basic coverage but it does not replace personal travel insurance

Visa types

  • Tourist stay (Tarjeta de Turista equivalent, now folded into the e-Ticket system): free, valid for stays up to 30 days, single entry per e-Ticket
  • Business Visa: for stays involving local business activity beyond meetings; apply through the Dominican consulate in Paris
  • Residency Visa: required for anyone planning to stay long-term or work; processed through Dirección General de Migración after consular pre-approval
  • Student Visa: required for enrollment in Dominican educational institutions longer than a short course

Entry conditions

  • Free entry for up to 30 days for tourism; a fee applies only if you need to extend beyond 30 days
  • No paid employment permitted on the visa-free entry
  • The e-Ticket must be completed within 72 hours of travel and presented (digitally or printed) at check-in and on arrival
  • Officers may ask for proof of accommodation and return travel
  • Overstays beyond 30 days incur a departure tax/fine scaled by the number of extra days, collected at the airport on exit

Fees & processing time

  • e-Ticket registration: free, processed instantly online
  • Overstay fine (if applicable): roughly USD 2.50 per day beyond 30 days up to 1 year, collected at departure
  • No standard visa fee for the initial 30-day stay
  • Extension/regularization beyond the overstay window requires a visit to Dirección General de Migración in Santo Domingo; processing typically takes several business days

Tips for France travelers

  • Complete the e-Ticket 24–72 hours before departure — airlines may refuse boarding without proof of a completed form
  • Keep a copy of your hotel confirmation and return ticket accessible for immigration checks
  • If your trip may run past 30 days, budget for the small overstay fee rather than trying to formally extend, which is more time-consuming
  • The French Embassy is in Santo Domingo — register with them if staying long or traveling to remote areas
  • Direct flights from Paris to Punta Cana operate seasonally; off-season often requires a connection via Madrid or the US
