Guide last updated October 26, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
  • Digital passport photo and scanned passport bio page for the online application
  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination (mandatory, uploaded or shown on arrival)
  • Return/onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation or an invitation letter
  • Travel health insurance: recommended given limited medical facilities
  • Biometrics: photo and fingerprints taken on arrival at N'Djamena international airport

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, validity around 90 days from issue, maximum stay 30 days, fee approx EUR 50-70
  • Business e-Visa: single entry, requires invitation letter from a Chadian entity, fee approx EUR 70-90
  • Transit visa: shorter validity for onward travel, lower fee
  • Multiple-entry visas require a separate application at the Chadian embassy in Paris and are not available through the standard e-visa route

How to apply online

  • Apply through the Chadian embassy's online portal or via the e-visa link provided by the embassy in Paris (ambassade-tchad.org)
  • Steps: register online, complete the form with travel and personal details, upload passport scan, photo and yellow fever certificate, pay the fee by card
  • Processing time: typically 48-72 hours, occasionally longer during busy periods
  • Approval is emailed as a document to print and present at check-in and on arrival, where a stamp is added to the passport

Fees & processing time

  • E-Visa fee: approx EUR 50-90 depending on visa category
  • No separate VFS/BLS fee for the standard online route
  • Total cost estimate: EUR 60-100 including minor administrative charges
  • Standard processing: 48-72 hours
  • Express processing is not formally advertised; applying 1-2 weeks ahead is recommended

Tips for France travelers

  • Apply well in advance (10+ days) since processing times can vary
  • Common delay/rejection reasons: missing yellow fever certificate, incomplete travel itinerary, low-quality photo uploads
  • The Chadian embassy in Paris can also process visas directly for travelers who prefer in-person application
  • Extensions beyond 30 days must be requested at the Direction Générale de la Migration in N'Djamena before expiry
  • Check France Diplomatie advisories closely given security concerns in parts of Chad, especially near the Lake Chad basin and Sudan border
