What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed Schengen visa application form (signed)
  • One recent biometric photo, 35x45mm, light/white background
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) captured at VFS Global Cairo; required for first-time applicants and renewed every 59 months
  • Travel/medical insurance valid across the Schengen area, minimum EUR 30,000 coverage, covering your full stay
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter from a host in Norway)
  • Confirmed round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3-6 months showing sufficient funds
  • Employment letter/NOC from employer, or business registration if self-employed
  • Covering letter explaining purpose and itinerary of the trip

Visa types

  • Schengen Tourist/Visit Visa (Type C) - single, double or multiple entry, up to 90 days within any 180-day period, fee EUR 90
  • Schengen Business Visa (Type C) - same validity rules, requires invitation letter from a Norwegian company
  • National Visa (Type D) - for study, work or family reunification longer than 90 days, applied for separately through UDI (Norwegian Directorate of Immigration), longer processing and separate fee

How to apply online

  • Complete the Schengen application form online and book an appointment through VFS Global's Norway visa page
  • Submit the application and biometrics in person at the VFS Global Visa Application Centre in Cairo
  • Documents are forwarded to the Norwegian consulate/UDI for decision
  • Decision is communicated by SMS/email and the passport with visa sticker (or refusal letter) is collected from or returned by VFS
  • Standard processing time is around 15 calendar days; complex cases can take up to 45 days
  • Fee EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6-12, free for children under 6, plus a VFS Global service fee

Fees & processing time

  • Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 (approx. EGP equivalent at the time of application), children 6-12: EUR 45
  • VFS Global service fee charged on top of the consular fee
  • Total estimated cost: EUR 90-120 including service charges
  • Standard processing time: 15 working days from the date of a complete application
  • No official express/priority service for Norway through VFS Cairo; apply early to avoid delays
  • Premium Lounge/courier services available at VFS Cairo for an extra fee, but these do not speed up the consulate's decision

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 working days before travel
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient or unclear bank statements, unconvincing ties to Egypt, inconsistent itinerary, missing or weak invitation letters
  • Book an appointment through VFS Global well in advance, as Cairo slots fill up quickly during summer and holiday seasons
  • Travel insurance must explicitly state Schengen-area coverage of at least EUR 30,000
  • Extensions inside Norway are only granted in exceptional circumstances (medical emergency, force majeure); plan your trip to fit within the granted dates
