Guide last updated October 18, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed online e-visa application via portal.immigration.gov.ng
  • Digital passport photo and scanned passport bio page
  • Letter of invitation from a Nigerian host, company, or hotel confirmation
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory for entry)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • No biometrics required online; fingerprints and photo are captured on arrival at the airport

Visa types

  • Nigeria Visa on Arrival e-Visa (short visit) - single entry, valid for a stay of up to 90 days, fee around USD 50-130 depending on validity and nationality category
  • Business e-Visa - single entry, requires an invitation letter from a Nigerian business, similar fee range
  • Multiple-entry visa - for frequent travelers, higher fee, requires additional justification

How to apply online

  • Register on portal.immigration.gov.ng and select the appropriate visa category
  • Upload the passport scan, photo, invitation letter, and yellow fever certificate
  • Pay the visa fee online by card
  • Processing typically takes 3-5 business days; approval is sent by email as a pre-approval letter
  • Present the pre-approval letter, passport, and yellow fever certificate at the Visa on Arrival desk at Lagos (Murtala Muhammed) or Abuja airport to receive the visa
  • For a standard embassy-issued visa instead, applications can also be made via the Nigerian High Commission network for the nearest mission

Fees & processing time

  • Short-visit e-visa fee: approximately USD 50 (single entry, up to 30 days) to USD 130 (longer validity)
  • Business e-visa fee: similar range, USD 50-160 depending on duration
  • No separate VFS fee for the online portal; airport arrival processing fee is included in most categories
  • Standard online processing: 3-5 business days before travel
  • Airport Visa on Arrival desk processing after pre-approval: usually under an hour

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply online well before travel - pre-approval is required before boarding; Nigeria generally does not accept visa applications at the airport without it
  • The yellow fever certificate is checked strictly on arrival - have the original International Certificate of Vaccination ready
  • Common rejection reasons: missing or unclear invitation letter, or passport photos that do not meet the digital upload specifications
  • Extensions are handled by the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Lagos or Abuja
  • The e-visa portal is the most reliable route for most Egyptian travelers, as consular visa processing is not available in every location
